Paper time…

UGH! Starting this paper was so hard. I was sick for a lot of class so i felt behind and had no idea what i was going to write about. The more i researched the more i realized how much Freud and Psychoanalytic criticism interested me. So i though who would be there best character to analyze. I concluded that the Wife of Bath would fit the job. She is a unique woman and a lot to say about her. So i am braking her down into the three main parts. The id, the ego, and the superego. In life, we are supposed to have a balance, but what i find with the wife is that her id overrules everything. The id is based on need, pleasure, and wants. she is a very complex person and it is going to be hard to grasp all that the wife represents….

C Tales Baby!!!

Wife of Bath: She seemed to be very talented in textile making. She is well dressed white scarlet red hosiery with a handsome face. I wondered why the wife had so many husbands. She knows a thing or two about love. “ She knew of the remedies of love, as it happened, for she knew that arts old dance.” She is experienced and independent.the Wife is a very smart and independent woman. Someone who knows what she wants. She tells a story about a night who is on a search for an answer. She manipulates people so she can have it her way. She is very tricky.

Miller:  The miller was a larger man who was big boned and always getting into fights. He seems to be a drunk. “a stout fellow indeed, he was huge” the book describes him. Seems to be a happy person who is nice. He seems to lack class and sophistication. This tale was not told in order. The stories were supposed to be told by order of class. The miller is a drunk who is rude, loud, and crazy. He is always fighting and disagreeing with everyone. This tale is dirty and talks about cheating and betrayal.

Franklin:  His is an older man with a white beard. He believed in complete pleasure and true happiness. He had an appreciation for the finer things in life. He also really like food. I like someone who knows how to eat. This tale just went into more deal on what we already knew about him. He was a good person with good intentions. He had morals and was honest. This shows towards the end when he tells his love/wife to go to the man she promised to love. That was the right thing to do and he knew that.

Pardoner: Is weird looking with a seemingly strange relationship with the Summoner. Something is off with this guy and doesn’t seem too like is isn’t a good guy to be around. He is not a good man. This was evident from the beginning. He was a hypocrite and liked to point out others flaws.

Now lets see how ya did…..

I would like to start of by saying this project was a fun one. I enjoyed having the freedom to do what i wanted with this and not having any limitations. This is what i learned and thought…

The lesson started off with Millers Tale. The group started with an interpritation of an interview with Miller. This helped me learn the personality of Miller and was very creativly done. They then went into an analysis of the tale and taught us what a fabliaux was. It basically is a dirty French story. This sinful tale reflects the mill and his personality. It was a story written for the “people”. It shows the differences in class and manors. I feel like the group lacked organization and needed to have a better plan going into the presentation. They seemed to be sort of winging it. However, i feel that the concepts and ideas were great and on key, just the way to present them could have been a bit better.

The next group to present was the Wife of Bath. This was my group. We basically spit up into four mini groups all coming up with a conclusion about the tale. We taught the class what an apologia was (defense of ones positions or opinions) and gave a powerpoint reflecting what we got out of the tale. We all took our main point and researched it then wrote blogs explaining them. I feel like our group did an amazing job and according to Mrs. Duke, we are a “model” for what all projects should be.

The next group to present was Franklin’s tale. they had a very good powerpoint. They gave a skit that i felt lacked a bit of depth and meaning. the group wrote a paper that was their own tale and i felt like not a lot of time went into writing it and it wasnt too relevant. The group should have done a bit more planning and should have had more of a conclusion.

Last was the Pardoners Tale. I was not able to see this presentation but was able to ask around to see what others thought. I was sent a copy of the powerpoint and it looked very good. The tale deals with the lower class and shows the main character isnt holy or a good person over all.

i think the class as a whole did a great job with this project and i feel like we all learned copious amounts of information.

irish…… top a tha marnin to ya

So i picked Jim Phelan who lived from 1895 to 1966. He grew up in a small city near Dublin. He developed an interest in travel at a young age. this person was an Irish tram and wrote about that and life in prison. he was sentenced to death and has a date to get hanged. he however was saved and only had to spend about 20 years in jail. he went back and fourth from europe to usa. he began a great story teller and then started writing. he was cutting edge and wrote about things that were looked down upon by society. he was unique and thats what sets him apart from others. he wasnt a very educated person and he went to jail for a very long time. that was life changing and it shows in his work that he is passionate about things he does.

Wife of Bath Midway Blog…

So our project is running its course. This as you already know, is a long story and is full of detail and hidden meaning. We are breaking things down and looking for the “true” meaning of the text. (like we always do with readings). We all took the liberty in finding articles that related to our text. I chose one of J Store that talked about Bath itself and why the authors chose for the Wife to live in Bath. Bath is part of England and is know for there…. can you guess? Their Baths! They are said to have special healing powers and are a luxury to most. People in that time that needed healing would sit in the baths witch would be hot from the geothermal heat. At one point someone suggested since these waters were so “good” people who really needed healing should drink the water. (this relates to the increase in interest in the medical field and magical powers. Little did they know these waters contained large amounts of sulfur. All that drank the water were poisoned and died. Now i am getting off on a tangent so back to the point. The author (according to this article) picked the city of Bath because the bath is a sign of sexual indulgence. And as you already know the Wife (Allison) knows a thing or two about sexual indulgence, in fact she represents sexuality. So the wife embodies the essence of what Bath stood for. If she is the water per say, her were all in the water and they all died mysteriously. the waters would deadly.

Rollins and University of Miami

The Wednesday after Mardi Gras dad, marsha, and me planned to fly to Orlando to visit Rollins College in Winter Park. So the day of I wake up at around 6am to get dressed and finish up some last min packing. I walk downstairs and marsha has this look on her face. My dad go very very ill that night and neither got any sleep. I felt so bad that my dad was so sick and didn’t know what to do. We figured the best thing was for dad to stay and just Marsha and me go on the trip. So we left and I felt so bad about leaving my sick dad at home by himself. So we arrived in winter park and the city is so nice! I felt like I was in Aspen. There was the greatest shopping and amazing little sidewalk cafes. Winter Park is known for having the old florida money. These people were so nice and so put together. The college tour was great. The campus is so beautiful. It is a VERY small college as far as the number of students.  Later that day I had a meeting with the dean of the business school. This was so cool! He was so nice and I rocked the interview. He even said at the end of the meeting that he “hopes to see me at Rollins soon”! Rollins’ buisiness school is very cutting edge and ranked very high on the top business schools in the US.

That night we drove down to South Beach where my dad later met up with us. We stayed at the Lowes hotel right on the beach. The hotel was amazing! The pool was mindblowing! The next day we went on a tour of University of Miami. Now many people think this is a huge state school. It is not! It’s a mid sized private college with just under ten thousand under grads. The business school is in the top 50. The school is very hard to get into. I worry about the school being just a bit too diverse.  I am not sure it is the right school for me. I am not sure I feel 100% safe living in Miami and am not sure if the college offers what I am looking for.  I also had an interview with the Business school rep (not the dean like at Rollins).  They offer so many different paths to a business degree. I must say if it wasn’t for the great business school I would have probably left.  So we spent the rest of the week in South beach shopping, laying out on the beach and by the pool, going out to dinner, and PARTYING! SB is a very cool and chic place to be. I love it, but its very different than Miami.

We still have a lot of colleges to tour. This is such a hard choice. I am still leaning on going to school in Pairs. I just don’t think there is a better learning experience than living in Paris on my own. I am just not sure but the good thing is I have a lot of time left to think.

SMU Visit….

It is so scary to think college is around the corner. Over the break I am going to visit a few college that are on my top ten list. SMU is the first I went to see. This school is just about everything i am looking for in a college minus a few things. The campus is beautiful, well groomed, and up to date. The classrooms are state of the art, and the dorms are new and suite style with private bathrooms. The few things that might be issues for me would be one the student. They are rated #3 most conservative in the country. You walk around and everyone looks the same. They are all preps, all drive BMWs, and all perfect. Although I am a lot like them I worry that I will be bored with them and might not fit in. frat might not be for me. The other thing I worry about is the business school. Right now I am leaning on studying international business. At SMU you are required to take 7 core business prep classes. You have to have an average of a 3.3 to get in the business school. So what if I don’t make that? I have to change my dream? I have to switch school? That scares me. I think I can make those grades but it is scary.  This choice is gunna be so hard! So this was the first half of my mardi gras break. I flew back to NOLA to attend mardi gras. It was off the chain! Crazy crazy crazy….

Wife of Baaaaath

ok so there is this woman, and she knows what she wants and how to get it. i mean she is good and doing what she does! What she is into is men, MEN MEN MEN!!! She has been married 5 times. She says that as long as she is please (you know like in the bedroom) she is happy. She stands up for herself and is a very strong and independent woman. In the prologue she talks about virginity vs marriage. She them breaks down all her “loved ones” (more like the ones shes been lovin on if you know what i mean). The first three are older and this surprises me since she is so “freaky”. The whole tale is basically her talking about her men and what she likes. She is a well liked woman and this does confuse me a bit since she is so skanky at times. But she isnt a skank at the same time…. very interesting……..

Project time

I really like this project for some reason. I seem to learn best when other students present to me their ideas. I think its great how we are all in small groups to dig deep into out section and then present to the class what we come up with. I can really focus my time on one thing vs. a million short stories all at once. Our tale (the wife of bath) is a very interesting one. We are thinking of breaking it down into mini spider webs. There will be bubbles of info and linked together by the web based on what ones are related to each other. There are four webs or groups. The general prologue (only the part about wife of bath), the first part of the apolagea (prologue to tale), the second part of apolagea, and the tale itself. We will do these webs then answer the four main questions and give a conclusion. get excited yall its gunna be amazing!!!!!!!

our group is bangin btw!!!
