HELLO Chemestry!!!

YAY MOLES!!!

we are learning about moles, significant figures, and scientific notation.

we are also learning about polyatomic figures and the periodic table.

Along with my love for math, i seem to be kind of good at science. it is interesting how one mole of any substance has a mass of 6.022 x 10^23!!! thats a big number. say if you stacked 6.022 x 10^23 textbooks one on top of the other, not only would it reach the sun, it would go past it! we are doing conversions such as degrees Celsius to Kelvin and grams to moles along with moles to molecules. so it is understood since i love math i love chemistry.

the one thing that is hard about chemistry is that it is hard to grasp sometimes. you cant always relate to some things you are learning… so you just have to take what the teacher gives you and go with it. like you cant see how many moles are in one atom of lead… you just have to accept that it is what ever it is…

my first quarter didnt start out so great because i didnt put in the time i needed to, but now that i realize that my grade has gone up and up. i am enjoying class more and things are getting better!

PreCal!!!!!!

Since kindergarten i have always been a math person. for some odd reason i love numbers and figuring out equations. I guess i just get numbers and there are not foreign to me. another great thing is that i have not had to study for math tests and quizzes and i always had an A. that is until this year. PreCalc is a new breed of math. it doesn’t really relate to anything i have done before in math.

Mr. Davis is a great teacher and is a believer in teaching us everything he possibly can in 2 semesters. Although he also believes it is his way or the highway. Everyone knows there are more than one ways you can get the answer (that is what i love about math), but not in his class. we have to show all of our steps and do the steps in the order he wants us to. this is where i tend to mess up. i dont feel the need to write out 2+2=4, it is elementary, but Mr. Davis thinks differently. this is where i make most of my mistakes on test, doing it a different way or leaving out information.

We spent the day going over all the things we have done in this chapter. We are learning how to graph all the trigonometric functions. (ex: sine, cosine, tangent, cotangent, etc..). for every equation we have to state the Amplitude (if any), the Period, Phase shift, and vertical shift.

when given and equation…. y=5/3cos(x+pie) you then figure out all of the needed info. from there you sketch the “mother” graph, then you must draw another with the phase shift entered in it then another with the vertical shift. so for every little equation comes 3 graphs.

now the hard stuff comes along…. we are given a graph and we have to write out the equation.

the hard part is it is just so much information running through my head at one time i freeze… what step to do next, what do i plug pie into, what do i graph, is my math right, and i graphing sine or cosine, does it have an amplitude? there is so much involved and that is when you need to just take a min and figure out a plan to finish the problem.

it takes a lot of practice! however i still love math and will always love math!

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT!!!
