Word stuff…

I must admit, when i got the assignment to do vocab i freaked out a little bit. Vocab is not really my thing. But after i put in the work and filling in those boxes, the words just worked for me. This is a great way to review and learn new words. I think the words in this book are useful and they are not like most vocab books. I am used to having 65 words that i would NEVER use in real like, and i think most of the words in the book are in day to day conversation! i have a feeling vocab is going to really help my grade in this class!

yay

My outside reading

i dont know about how yall feel, but Barnes and Noble’s is the slowest place to order a book ever. And yes Mrs. Duke, you can say “i told ya so”. the book i chose was the Last September. i look forward to reading this book, and will get back to you with my feelings about the reading. I think our paper for this book will be very different then the “normal” papers we write and look forward to seeing what Mrs. D has up her sleeve!

The mother of all MOTHERS

Most of you know that i am from New Orleans. In fact i lived in lakeview (= BAD). i have had just about enough of mother nature! For Katrina i came to baton rouge for about 2 weeks then moved to Houston, where we lived in the Omni Hotel along with my pug dog. And yes, my house flooded. In addition to me losing everything i own, i also lost my fishing camp. it didnt just flood, it BLEW away! My mother got sick of living in a hotel so we packed our bags and moved to Cozumel, Mexico. it was great. but not 8 days after we moved there hurricane Wilma came rolling around. Needless to say we had to leave. the storm stayed over thee Island for 48 hours. the water was so high it washed out all of the furniture on the SECOND floor. We were forced to move to Covington.

By now you realize i dont have the best luck with storms. Now that i have moved to Baton Rouge i thought i was in the clear. well i guessed wrong! GUSTAV!!!!!!!!!! storms seem to fallow me! It amazes me how a storm can go from a tropical storm to a cat 4 hurricane over night. It blows my mind. what worries me is that everyone is saying the storm is going to hit west of us, HELLO the east side of the hurricane is the worst! so all we can do is hope for the best, and hope the power doesnt go out for too long, i dont think i can stand more than 2 days without A/C. i dont know how people lived back in the day, few makes me hot just thinking about it. and this isnt a feel bad for alex story, this is a message about staying alert! anything can happen and you have to be ready for the worst. Now i am not saying be scared of life, because what is going to happen will happen, you just want the best outcome!

love yall

best of luck to everyone and keep us posted!

Summer Reading

I liked 1984 a lot. However it seemed very dark and scary to me. I cant wait to do our project on it. I think it is great how Mrs. Duke is letting us be creative and ourselves with this project. It is so much better than just writing a boring english paper. It brings new meaning to “hands on” projects. I think it is a great way for us to express ourselves. I would like to say this to the kids in our class. Stop complaining about not being creative. Everyone can be creative. you just have to put your mind to it and give it some thought. And guess what, you have to do it anyway so suck it up.

A little bit about me.

Hey guys, I am Alex Baker and I am new to EHS. I just moved to Baton Rouge 2 weeks ago. I was attending St. Martin’s in New Orleans. So far i am really loving Episcopal and can’t wait to see what the year holds. I love swimming and am on the EHS swim team as well as crawfish aquatics. In addition i love art and music. When it comes to art i like colorful and strange pieces. My 2 favorite types of music would have to be old school rap and classical. I am very energetic and full of energy and will always have a smile on my face.

Mrs. Duke is different and scares me a little bit, however I think she will be the coolest teacher. Already I can tell she is full of intersesting ideas and new ways to learn. I am concerned about the work load amount of reading we will have every night. Blogging will take some getting used to, but i think over time it get better. I look forward to English this year because i think Mrs. Duke will keep us on our toes and interested in learning.

what i saw

As I was looking through old blogs, one caught my attention. It was written by Alfonzo (aka tha fonz). His blog was called Eng. III Survival Guide. It was filled with information about Mrs. Duke’s class and i found it very helpful. I suggest that everyone take a look at it. It helped me out a lot. Something else i noticed was throughout the year the blogs got more specific and detailed. Some of the stuff on there was very interesting and impressive. I hope that my writing will be like that as well. I think blogging is going to very helpful to my writing. I look forward to our new BLOG!!!
